Iran Reports Assault on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any impact is not yet known and the US has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - stated they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their air space.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was striking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted locations associated with the the regime, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," the statement continued.
It said debris landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
