The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Thriller Merging Silent Hill and Social Deduction Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several fascinating future games, but one especially has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"This is a unique game where a young woman harboring multiple human souls inside her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of teenage years. Inside her exist four separate personas, all possessing unique anxieties and motivations. These entities can take over at will, releasing their innermost terrors upon her suddenly.

Based on revealed gameplay, much of the action unfolds within a creepy medical facility, though additional clips show the protagonist exploring a abandoned chapel.

An Environment of Personal Dread

"What makes you afraid of? What makes you uneasy?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. People in power. Things that appear minor to others can trigger something primal within us. This game explores that concept — fears that are specific to each person."

The core gameplay loop involves managing the persona that emerges at a particular time. However, these identities will switch against your will as you play. During exploration, every persona's fears become amplified and attack the girl one after another. When the soul changes, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Eerie Visuals and a Deadly Choice

Initially, UN:Me displays striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is populated by orderlies all sporting the same face, with disturbingly broad grins. Figures in the waiting room have large flowers growing from their heads should be. Flowers are a recurring element, contrasting organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls inhabiting the heroine is the "true" one. "Each of the souls claims that the body is rightfully them," notes a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. But, since every entity can deceive or obfuscate the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," a voice suggests. "The final entity remaining could be a fraud. In any case, your choices are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced release date, but it is available to follow on platforms.
