Thrice-crowned award winner Nikola Jokic endures a 'gut-wrenching' injury to his knee.
Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association MVP Jokic sustained a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee when the Nuggets fell 147-123 at the Heat.
The Serbian center was hurt towards the end of the second quarter during an accidental contact with fellow Nugget Jones.
The other player came down on the foot of the MVP, who promptly fell to the court clutching his knee.
The veteran player, that leads the NBA season in rebounds and assists, posted a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the contest before suffering the problem.
Jokic will undergo an MRI scan on Tuesday to determine the seriousness of the issue.
"Instantly, he knew something was wrong," commented Nuggets coach David Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Anyone that is injured, it's tough to see, most notably a player as special as him. We'll find out more on Tuesday."
"The team will adjust as a team. Of course, currently, I'm focused just about him personally and the letdown of going through a situation like that."
